MANUFACTURING
In many of the world’s factories, there are areas of automation and storage where lighting can be dimmed to 50% even during operational periods. Lights can be quickly returned to full power (or 90% maximum) when workers or maintenance personnel enter the area.
The Sinewave Energy Saving Strategy
Sinewave’s energy saving strategy is to install the ESD dimmers on all HID and fluorescent lights and then dim them during off-peak and after hours, but quickly ramp them up to full power in response to motion or occupancy sensors.
Example:
Electric cost = $0.10/kW-hr
Lighting power = 100,000 Watts at full power (876,000 kW-hr/year)
Dimming to 90% for 50% of the time = 394,200 kW-hr/year
Dimming to 50% for 50% of the time = 219,000 kW-hr/year
Total = 613,200
kW-hr/year
This simple dimming scheme saves 262,800 kW-hr/year (30%)
Cost savings = $ 26,280/year
Payback = 14 months for HID (11 months for fluorescent lamps)
Outdoor parking lots also save by dimming to 50% when unoccupied.
Enhanced Security
Because the lights return to full power immediately in response to motion detection, customers are comforted, while trespassers are warned that their presence has been detected.
The ESD Also Dims Fluorescent Lamps
Due to its unique true sinewave electric control, the ESD can also dim T12 and T8 fluorescent fixtures (ballast must not have an active front end) down to 30% of their wattage, which provides even greater energy savings than possible with HID lamps. |
